Eye Health and Diseases

Eye diseases include a variety of health problems that affect the visual organs and can have significant effects on vision. It can occur due to various reasons such as common eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma and retinopathy, aging, genetic factors, diabetes and various eye traumas. While cataract usually causes vision loss as a result of clouding of the eye lens, glaucoma can cause optic nerve damage due to increased intraocular pressure. Retinopathy is a common condition in diabetic patients and can affect the blood vessels of the retina, causing vision loss. Early diagnosis and treatment can limit the progression of eye diseases, so regular eye exams are important.

Today, treatment of eye diseases includes various methods such as medications, laser surgery, intraocular lens implantation and surgical interventions. Especially cataract surgery and laser eye surgeries are among the effective methods frequently used in modern ophthalmology practices. Treatment of eye diseases can improve an individual’s quality of life and requires the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits as well as regular eye checks to maintain vision health.

Cataract

Cataract, which usually occurs during the aging process, is characterized by the loss of function of the transparent lens, which is responsible for refracting the light coming into the eye, over time. This causes the lens to become cloudy, making vision foggy and dark. Due to the effect of cataract, light decreases as it falls on the retina, leading to a significant decrease in vision ability. Loss of vividness of colors may negatively affect functions such as driving or reading newspapers while performing daily activities. Cataract is an eye problem that requires treatment for these reasons.

Smart Lens

A new generation technology called intraocular lens or smart lens, which is widely used especially in cataract surgeries, is preferred in the treatment of multifocal problems. These smart lenses, which have been successfully applied to patients with refractive error and who are not suitable for laser treatment, offer clear vision in both distance and near vision without the use of glasses. Intraocular lenses can also be an effective option for nearsightedness, also known as presbyopia.

Color Blindness

Color blindness is an inherited vision disorder that causes difficulty in perceiving certain colors or the differences between these colors. Color blind people often have difficulty distinguishing colors such as red, green and blue, which is one of the main symptoms of color blindness. The visual experience of color blind people differs from that of other individuals, and this is often passed on as an inherited trait.
